International Tourism First Results of 2010 Confirm Upward Trend
International tourism is steadily gaining momentum following an extremely challenging 2009. International tourist arrivals grew by seven per cent in the first two months of 2010 worldwide, according to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer. Growth was particularly strong in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. ITB Berlin Expands Role as Global Market Leader
ITB Berlin has emphatically confirmed its status as the leading travel trade show in the world. A slight rise in exhibitor attendance and stable trade visitor numbers from both Germany and abroad ensured the trade fair was a success. The recently concluded 44th edition of ITB Berlin had 180, 000 visitors and six billion euros in orders.Though the number of foreign trade visitors was stable the numbers Asia showed growth. International Visitors to Asia Pacific Improves - PATA
As per the preliminary figures available from Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), the numbers of international visitors to the Asia Pacific region grew by three per cent year-on-year in November 2009. According to the report, all the sub-regions, with exception of the Americas, recorded growth in arrivals for the month. Indian Tourism Sector Registers Positive Growth in July 2009
There has been an improvement in the growth rate of foreign tourist arrivals (FTA) to India in July 2009 (0.6 per cent) as compared to June 2009 (0.2 per cent) FTAs during July 2009 were 4.32 lakh as compared to FTAs of 4.29 lakh during the same month last year and 4.0 lakh in July 2007. The improvement in the growth rate of FTAs in July 2009 has been 0.6 per cent as compared to June 2009 which was 0.2 per cent.Positive growth in the monthly FTAs, though nominal, has been witnessed for the second time during the year 2009, the Tourism Ministry said. World Tourism in the Face of Global Economic Crisis and Influenza Threat
International tourism demand has deteriorated further due to the impact of the global economic recession. International tourist arrivals declined at a rate of 8 per cent between January and February this year, leaving the overall volume at the same level as recorded in 2007. At the same time, influenza A(H1N1) is starting to affect the sector. Its impact is being closely monitored by UNWTO in close collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). > The 2009 edition of ITB Berlin which concluded in Berlin on March 15 saw 110,000 trade visitors, of which 42 per cent were from abroad. The industry experts think that in times of crisis more market players are making increasing use of the world's leading platform for the industry. The World Travel and Tourism Council recently announced the 12 finalists for the 2009 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards.
