Parramasala Festival Announced
The New South Wales Government, Australia has announced a new week-long Indian Festival in Parramatta called ‘Parramasala’ - The Australian Festival of South Asian Arts in Western Sydney. Parramasala – the Australian Festival of South Asian Arts is an exciting international festival to be held annually in the centre of Parramatta City. This inaugural festival in 2010 will begin development of the concept, with the festival expanding to reach its full scale by 2012. This festival follows the NSW Government’s plan to establish a round-table meeting of Ministers, agencies and Indian leaders to address the safety concerns of international students and the Indian community. Playing on the Hindi word masala, which means mix, Parramasala will be held in November during a highlight of the Indian calendar, Diwali, the Festival of Lights. The festival will showcase Indian art, music and film in Parramatta's streets and laneways. The programme will be held in November 2010 for about five days and it will principally feature Indian arts drawn from mainland India, the Indian diaspora and Australia. In addition to the arts programs in the festival, Parramasala will include sporting and business activities. The full arts program for the 2010 festival will be released in September 2010.
